Description (Service)

The service offers a number of community initiatives for youth in Halton Region

Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

  • youth‑driven advisory group where high school students provide insight to HRPS on youth issues, policies and programming
  • strengthens police‑youth relationships through dialogue, volunteerism and collaboration

Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI)

  • eight‑week paid summer employment program for youth ages 15–18
  • helps participants gain job skills, leadership experience and exposure to many areas of policing

Skills and Drills Flag Football

  • mentorship‑based flag football program that teaches fundamentals of the sport
  • builds leadership, teamwork, confidence and positive relationships with police

ProAction Cops & Kids

  • police‑led, skill‑building programs supported by ProAction Cops & Kids
  • connects officers and youth through activities that promote trust, respect and community engagement

PEACE Youth Leadership Program

  • 11‑week leadership program enhancing cultural awareness, communication and teamwork
  • includes hands‑on learning about policing, specialized units and investigative skills

Mentoring Youth (MY) Camp

  • free summer program for students in Grades 7–9 focused on leadership, confidence and community safety
  • includes activities led by HRPS officers and community partners

Youth Engagement Series (YES)

  • six‑part educational series for youth ages 15–18 in partnership with the YMCA
  • covers topics such as human trafficking, gangs, drugs, social media and support services, with activities and engagement sessions

Job Ready Program

  • three‑day March Break program for youth ages 14–17
  • provides résumé building, interview skills, First Aid & CPR‑C certification and volunteer experience

Flipping Into Success

  • 8–10‑week gymnastics‑based mentorship program led by an officer who is also a certified coach
  • promotes confidence, resilience, physical activity and positive police‑youth connections

Youth Impact Awards

  • annual awards recognizing youth who contribute positively to their peers or community
  • also honours HRPS officers who have significantly impacted youth

Kozy Kids Program

  • winter clothing initiative providing snowsuits, coats and essentials to children across Halton
  • identifies recipients through school boards and is funded entirely through community donations

TRACK – Teen Random Acts of Community Kindness

  • volunteer program for youth ages 13–18 that encourages kindness, leadership and community involvement
  • youth work alongside police officers and partners to complete meaningful acts of service

Pathway to Success

  • mentorship and career‑exploration program launching Fall 2025
  • supports Grade 12 students—especially underserved youth—as they explore civilian and policing careers, guided by HRPS and Sheridan College mentors

Steering in the Right Direction

  • road‑safety and life‑skills initiative supporting young and inexperienced drivers
  • provides free G1 education, mentorship and resources for underserved youth ages 16–18
