Description (Service)

Provides the public with a safe way to surrender unwanted or potentially prohibited firearms, weapons, ammunition, or explosives while educating residents about items that may be illegal in Canada.

  • accepts unwanted firearms, weapons, ammunition, explosives, imitation firearms, replicas, air‑soft guns, and pellet guns
  • helps individuals who may unknowingly possess prohibited or illegal items dispose of them safely
  • ensures no criminal charges for items surrendered under Amnesty guidelines
  • aims to reduce illegally owned or unwanted weapons to prevent theft, misuse, and criminal access
  • not associated with any government firearms buyback program
  • items must not be transported to police stations or headquarters

Eligibility
  • Individuals with unwanted firearms, weapons, ammunition, replicas, or explosives
  • Legally owned or registered firearms may only be surrendered by the registered owner or authorized representative (executor, power of attorney)
Application
  • complete the online form to request a pickup, HRPS will call within three business days to schedule a date and time
  • a plain‑clothed officer in an unmarked vehicle retrieves the surrendered items at the arranged appointment
