Racialized Communities

An inclusive umbrella term that encompasses most people that are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour, including the Black and Asian Canadian communities, some of the Hispanic/Latin American Canadian communities, biracial or multiracial Canadians, and sometimes Indigenous communities depending on the context, regardless of their birthplace or citizenship. The word "racialized" recognizes that race is not an inherent quality of an individual, but rather a complex socio-cultural process, and includes those who may experience differential treatment on the basis of race, ethnicity, language, economics, religion, culture, or politics.
