Description (Service)

The 2026 municipal election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026 

During a municipal election, Town of Oakville citizens elect officials to the offices of Mayor, Town Councillors, Regional and Town Councillors, and various school board trustees for a four year term

Following the adoption of the Better Regional Governance Act, 2026, the Halton Regional Chair is now a Provincially appointed position and will not appear on the ballot

VOTING:  
Voters may vote in the following ways:

  • In person at advance polls Oct 7-10 and Oct 13-18 at the following locations
  • In person on election day, Oct 26, 2026 10 am-8 pm anywhere in your ward (check your voter card for voting locations available in your ward)
  • By proxy (see here for instructions)
  • Curbside voting
    • If you are unable to go inside the voting location on voting day, you can request to have your ballot brought to your vehicle, outside of the building or to another area within the voting location as directed. 
    • A friend or support person will need to go inside the voting location to let the election officials know that you require curbside voting, or you can call 905-815-6015 to speak with Elections staff and they will call the voting place on your behalf. 
  • Vote as a resident of a long-term care or retirement residence
    • The Town of Oakville will provide voting opportunities at long-term care homes and retirement homes. Information will be provided to the administration of these homes and facilities. 
  • Vote by home visit
    • Eligible voters who are unable to attend a voting location because of medical conditions or mobility limitations may request to vote at home. To register for this service, email elections@oakville.ca or call 905-815-6015 by Oct 18, 2026. 
    • Voters are encouraged to contact the Clerk’s department as early as possible to make a home visit appointment.

Eligibility

Ages: 18 year(s) and up

You are eligible to vote in Oakville’s municipal election if you are:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years old
  • a resident of Oakville or the owner or tenant of land in Oakville, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • not prohibited from voting by law
Application

Vote in person on voting day or at advance voting locations

  • The deadline to update your information through Elections Ontario’s Register to Vote page was Aug 12, 2026
  • You will now need to check or update your voter information directly with the Town of Oakville
  • Staring in Sep you can check or update your voter information online through Town of Oakvile
  • You can also update voter information in person when you vote, with proper identification
  • Contact Clerk's department at 905-815-6015 if you require assistance or have questions or wish to change your voter information in person now
