This listing provides information on holidays for employees covered by the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA) and Retail Business Holidays Act 
 
Note: the ESA does not apply to certain individuals and persons or organizations for whom they work, including those in sectors that fall under federal jurisdiction, such as air transportation, banks, most federal Crown corporations, radio and television broadcasting and telecommunications

Ontario Paid Public Holidays:

• Ontario has nine public holidays
• most employees who qualify are entitled to take these days off work and be paid public holiday pay
• an employee can agree electronically or in writing to work on the holiday and be paid public holiday pay plus premium pay and not receive another day off or be paid their regular wages and receive another substitute holiday for which they must be paid public holiday pay
• some employees may be required to work on a public holiday
