Programs that are responsible for identifying, appraising, accessioning, preserving, arranging, describing and providing reference services to the records of public or private institutions and/or the personal papers of individuals or families which are being kept permanently for the historical value which they potentially offer.
Braille Materials/Collections
Libraries or other organizations that maintain collections of books, magazines and other reading materials in Braille, a system that uses raised dots to represent numerals and letters of the alphabet which can be identified by the fingers, that are made available on a loan basis to community residents who are blind or who have visual impairments. Also included are organizations that distribute copies of books, magazines and other reading material in Braille format that people can keep.
Foreign Language Collections
Libraries or other organizations that maintain collections of books, magazines and other reading materials in languages other than English or French and make them available on a loan basis to community residents who need or prefer to read in a foreign language.
Genealogical Collections
Libraries or other organizations that maintain collections of materials which can be used for genealogical research including previous genealogical studies, publicly released census data and back volumes of local telephone books and city directories.
Government Publications
Libraries or other organizations that are depositories for federal, provincial or other government publications which are made available to community residents on a loan basis.
Large Print Materials/Collections
Libraries or other organizations that maintain collections of books, magazines and other reading materials in a large type format that are made available on a loan basis to residents of the community who have visual impairments. Also included are organizations that distribute copies of large print books, magazines and other reading material that people can keep.
