Abortion Referrals
Programs that maintain lists of medical clinics and other facilities that perform abortions and which link individuals seeking the procedure with appropriate resources.
Emergency Contraception
Programs that prescribe and/or supply birth control pills which are taken within 72-120 hours of having sexual intercourse to prevent an unintended pregnancy. Emergency contraception may be provided in the form of Plan B (2 pills), a large dose of regular birth control pills (two or four pills twice during a 12 hour period) or through insertion of a copper IUD.
Women's Health Centres
Programs that provide comprehensive primary and specialized care which focus on health issues experienced by women. Services are provided in an emotionally supportive and safe environment, and typically include health education, wellness programs and assistance navigating services. Specialized care available at women's health centres vary and may include reproductive and sexual health diagnostic and treatment services, access to abortion, cancer screening, and/or other public education programs focused on women’s health.
