Description (Service)

The BHYC Learn to Sail program offers courses for Youth Sailors (7-17 years) and Adult Sailors (18 years and up)

  • program features Sail Canada certified instructors in a safe, fun and active learning environment
  • Sailors learn the skills and enter into fun and challenging experiences suited to their skills 

Youth Learn To Sail Programs

  • offered to participants aged 7 to 17 years old 

Adult Learn To Sail Program

  • Adult lessons are offered in the Club 420 Dinghy, equipped with Spinnaker and trapeze
  • CAN Sail levels can be obtained during the program
  • objective is to feel comfortable sailing the points of sail, understand basic sail trim, or advanced sail trim if you already sail, and to feel more comfortable in the event your goal is to purchase a sailboat

Visually Impaired Learn to Sail Program

  • Ontario's largest Visually Impaired Learn to Sail Program
  • course runs for one full week, usually scheduled in late June, and is entirely led by volunteers
  • participants learn the fundamentals of sailing on 30 foot keel boats, seamanship basics, and some basic racing techniques
  • the week ends with a race around audible marks
