In Oakville, Animal Control services, including the enforcement of the animal control by-law, are provided by the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton

Animal control services include:

• Animal Control By-law enforcement and investigations
• Enforcement of the Dog Owners Liability Act
• Rescue of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife
• Capture of stray dogs and confined stray cats
• Rescue of injured domestic animals where the owner cannot be found
• Pickup of deceased animals on town property and regional roadways

WILDLIFE

The Lot Maintenance By-law together with the Parks By-law and Property Standards By-law, bans feeding wildlife in Oakville

The town's Wildlife Conflict Protocols (pdf) provide detailed information on wildlife conflict situations, responsibilities, and prevention measures

• for nuisance wildlife, such as bats, mice or skunks, or wildlife that has taken up residence inside a home, contact a private wildlife control service 
• to report an encounter with a coyote, observed feeding of coyotes by people or overflowing organic waste materials on public property through the Town of Oakville’s coyote reporting form
• learn about coexisting with Coyotes
• learn about coexisting with Raccoons
• learn about coexisting with Canada Geese

Sick or Injured Wildlife

The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton 905-845-1551 or the Toronto Wildlife Centre 416-631-0662 may be able to assist in some situations, however, neither is mandated by the town to manage these situations and due to the volume of calls received by both of these organizations it may not be possible to address every situation

• if wildlife disease is suspected, Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre can diagnose at 1-866-673-4781
• if a potentially rabid animal is encountered, dead or alive, and it has been in contact with humans, contact the Region of Halton Health Department at 905-825-6000
• other potential legal violations concerning wildlife, including intentional poisoning of wildlife, should be directed to the local Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources office (Aurora) at 905-713-7400, except in the case of migratory birds
• migratory birds suspected violations should be reported to CWS Wildlife Enforcement at 1-800-668-6767 or enviroinfo@ec.gc.ca

Dead Wildlife

Generally, property owners are responsible for the disposal of dead animals found on their property

• for dead wildlife on public property or roads, contact the  Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton at 905-845-1551 for removal
• Halton Region does not remove wildlife, however Public Health will provide general information at 905-825-6000
