Description and Service Details

Description (Service)
  • provides the programs, coaching and resources that drive achievement in competitive swimming and help develop character
  • swimmers must be registered annually with Swimming/Natation Canada (SNC) through Swim Ontario in order to compete in meets and to be covered for insurance 

Overview of OAK programs:

Acorns ("Love to swim")

  • Pre-competitive swim program for ages 10 years and younger
  • Fun and positive learning environment
  • Focus on developing a love for swimming and foundational skills
  • Skills taught: floating, kicking, breathing, balance, and streamlining
  • Practice once per week for 60 minutes from September to June
  • One swim meet at the end of the season
  • Tryout required for the program

Mini OAKS ("Love competitive swimming")

  • Program for beginner competitive swimmers ages 12 years and younger
  • Action-packed and educational
  • Emphasis on developing a love for competitive swimming
  • Core values: sportsmanship, team spirit, and a love of the sport
  • Skills taught: advanced techniques in the four competitive strokes, speed, and racing
  • Practice twice per week for 60 minutes from September to June
  • Multiple swim meets attended
  • Tryout required for the program

Development ("Love OAK")

  • Program for competitive swimmers ages 13 and younger
  • Thrilling and challenging
  • Emphasis on technical mastery, physical fitness, mental awareness, and race outcomes
  • Focus on Freestyle and IM training/racing for aerobic system development
  • Introduction to dryland training for physical literacy and skill development
  • Multiple practices per week from September to June
  • Regular attendance at swim meets
  • Tryout required for the program

Performance ("Love to win")

  • Level 4 program focused on reaching potential and striving for excellence
  • Emphasis on building a training base and improving skill sets
  • Developing competitive strokes, distances, and events
  • Attention to overall athletic development and competitive situations
  • Competitions based on time standards, ability, and experience
  • Season runs from mid-September to the end of June
  • Longer season for athletes competing at higher levels
  • Performance swimmers divided into specific training groups with dedicated coaches at the "rep" level based on age and performance
