Description (Service) | Mental Health services Brief services: Walk-in counselling clinic * quick access to therapeutic intervention enabling family members to see trained therapists or counsellors at their chosen moments of need * the entire family or individual family members may come to the clinic without an appointment during clinic hours As well as Oakville, walk-in counselling is offered in: * Acton * Burlington * Milton * Georgetown * all clinics closed Christmas and March break Brief therapy * two to three sessions of therapy Counselling and therapy service Group therapy: * a therapist works with groups of children or caregivers with similar needs to help them deal with specific challenges Intergenerational Trauma Treatment Program * a three-stage program for caregivers and families of children who have experienced trauma * program is designed to help caregivers understand, cope with, and resolve the impact of trauma on their child and family Therapy: * a therapist works with the family to help deal with problems affecting them and their child * a team approach may be used Crisis services Crisis Response Program: * provides immediate outreach for children and youth, their caregivers, and community members * the Crisis Response number is 905-878-9785 and is connected to the Monday-Sunday 24 hour answering service * callers will then be connected with a crisis counsellor as soon as possible Family and Caregiver skills building support Behaviour Consultation and Intervention: * available to both parents and child care staff when their is a concern regarding the child's behaviour Intensive treatment services Intensive Child and Family Services: * an in-home and/or community counselling and support program for children, youth and their families where there is risk of family breakdown, harm, or loss of school placement Residential services Aberdeen House Reach Out Program for Schools (ROPS): * a community based mental health program that provides counselling and family support services to students within a flexible framework to best suit the students and families * counselors can meet when and where appropriate to best meets the needs of the family and student * students who are eligible for this service do not need to attend ROCK's walk-in clinic * referrals must come from the school social worker Specialized consultation and assessment services Psychology services: * psychological assessments/consultations are considered for children and youth when there is a concern about learning, developmental, cognitive and/or social emotional functioning * process may consist of interviews with parents and other professions, observation, and individual testing Targeted prevention services Youth Aiding Youth (YAY): * a non-profit, community based program operating in the Region of Halton, sponsored by ROCK * a prevention/early intervention program that serves young children who are identified as being "at risk” of developing mental health issues * overall goals of the program are to help build on the children's self-esteem and social skills through a variety of programs including: Mentoring program: * matches volunteers, ages 16-24 on a one to one basis with at-risk children, ages 6-12 Social skills development groups: * matches volunteers, ages 16-24, on a one to one basis with at-risk children, ages 6-12 Social skills day camp: * offered at a fee of $150 for the week and is held 3 times, at various locations throughout the summer * a traditional day camp program with a focus on social skills development for children between the ages of 6-10 years Child and Family Outreach and Support Program (C-FOSP) * available to infants and children residing within the Halton Region and enrolled in a licensed childcare centre (not yet eligible for full-day kindergarten) or attending a licensed before and after school program (up to age 12) Services include: * behaviour consultation and support services * psychology services * therapy services * occupational therapy for children newborn to 3.8 yrs of age Prevention/early intervention programs Burlington Our Community Cares (community centres): * program works within the community to empower people and to help build skills in adults and children who are at risk for mental health problems * locations at Burloak and Warwick-Surrey housing developments EarlyON Child and Family Centre * offers a variety of programs and services to families with children ages 0-6 years Family Engagement Initiative * creates a place for families who have been impacted by a child or youth's mental health challenges to share their experiences, network with other families, and have a positive impact on services and programs in the community Positive Space Network: * a network of community social service agencies and local businesses working together to create safe and inclusive spaces for the LGBTQ+ populations of Halton * see the listings for
