Description and Service Details
Description (Service) In response to the Province-wide shutdown announced by the Ontario Government, Halton Region is working with local child care operators to offer emergency licensed child care to eligible parents. This targeted emergency child care program supports the parents of school-aged children who may not be able to accommodate their child’s learning/care at home during the period where elementary schools are operating virtually. The program is offered at no cost to parents. 
 
Halton Region Public Health, its Medical Officer of Health and Children’s Services are working closely with the Ministry of Education and approved child care operators to ensure all appropriate preventative safety and health measures are in place for approved emergency child care settings. 
 
To apply for emergency child care, parents are required to contact the approved child care operator directly. Approved child care operators in Halton Region include:

* individuals working in fuel distribution and oil refineries  
* education staff who are required to report to work in person while their children continue with remote learning 
* grocery store and pharmacy workers  
* truck drivers  
* farmers and those who support food or agricultural product supply chains  
* individuals involved in the collecting, transporting, storing, processing, disposing or recycling of any type of waste  
* individuals working in the manufacturing and distribution of disinfectants and sanitizers
